Thoman, Oscar P., 89, a lifelong resident of Wheeling, WV., passed away peacefully Thursday, January 28, 2010. Oscar was a veteran of WWII, he served with the U.S. Army 902 support division in France, Luxemburg, and Germany from 1943 until 1945. He was a member of the Third Armory, European Theater. He retired from the Wheeling- Pittsburgh Steel Corp. in 1976 after 38 years of service as a master mechanic and truck driver. Oscar passed along his passions for gardening, music, machinery, autos and other motor vehicles to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren Oscar was a member of the Warwood VFW and the American Legion Post # 1 and a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Warwood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Rose Mae (nee Cecil), two brothers, Joseph and Charles Thoman; and a sister, Agnes Klug. Oscar is survived by a sister, Mary Ellen Dickman; daughters, Cecilia Bremer (Noel), and Roseanna; sons, Frederick, Bob (Norma), Charles and Franz; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Calling hours are Sunday, January 31 from 12-3 p.m. and 6- 8 p.m. at the Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101 Warwood Ave, Wheeling. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 1518 Warwood Ave, with Monsignor Eugene S. Ostrowski officiating. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central Catholic High School Scholarship Fund, 14th and Eoff Street, Wheeling, WV 26003.
