GILFILLAN, John Irwin, Jr., 79, of New Freedom, PA and formerly of West Alexander, PA, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Gilchrist Hospice Care Center, Towson, MD. He was born May 14, 1930, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late John Irwin Gilfillan, Sr. and Hannah Rieck Gilfillan. Mr. Gilfillan was retired from the Social Security Administration and was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Palestine Lodge #189 AF & AM, and the West Alexander American Legion, and the West Alexander Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann Bullard Gilfillan, and a daughter, Rena Sue Gilfillan. Surviving are four daughters, Elizabeth Schlenoff and her husband, David of Parkton, MD, Jane Sorrels of Olathe, KS, and Pamela Hobbs and her husband, Edward of Hampstead, MD, and Johanna Tittel and her husband, Christian of Towson, MD; a sister, Rena Bonar of West Alexander, PA; 11 grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a loving companion, Nancy Theaker of Colerain, O. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Kepner Funeral Home, 166 Kruger Street, Elm Grove, Wheeling. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the West Alexander Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Keith Hornung and Reverend Lori Armstrong officiating. Interment in West Alexander Cemetery, West Alexander, PA. Memorial contributions may be made to West Alexander Presbyterian Church, P O Box 303, West Alexander, PA 15376.
