MATHEWS, John “Tom” Thomas, 75, of Wheeling, WV, 
passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Wheeling 
Hospital.

He was born April 23, 1935, in Wheeling, son of 
the late John F. Mathews and Florence V. Naples.

“Tom” was  retired,  having been a manager at 
Mutuel Department at Wheeling Downs Race Track 
and a manager for various other race tracks up 
and down the East Coast.  He was a U.S. Army 
Korean War Veteran and a Christian.  He was a 
member of the American Legion Post #1;  Elm 
Grove Eagles Aeries 1891; AARP; and the WV Lodge 
#2621 Moose Club.

Surviving are two aunts, Louise Hupp and Mildred 
Mathews; and several cousins including Patricia 
Naples, Harlean Carroll, and Carolyn Forman.

There will be no visitation.  Services and 
interment will be held at the convenience of the 
family.
