Potts, Susanne, retired educator of Ohio County Schools, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling. She was 86, a resident of Wheeling, WV. She attended St. Michael School, Triadelphia High School, and West Liberty State College. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Stetson University, Deland, FL., a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of California at Long Beach, and did graduate work at the University of Southern California. She taught in the Garden Grove School District of California as Department Chairwoman in the Girls Physical Education Department, and later as a Counselor. She returned to Wheeling as a Counselor at Wheeling High School, and then at Wheeling Park High School, retiring in 1986. During World War II she served in the US Navy Waves as a Pharmacist Mate 2nd Class. She was a charter member of the Navy Memorial, and the Women in the Military Service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cale and Hilda Potts; sisters, Jacqueline L. Welch, and Eileen H. Schubert; her lifelong friend, M. Kathleen Patton. Surviving are her Godchildren, Mary Ann Shatto and Lee Shatto; nieces, Joan Kaltenbach, Nancy Howley, Mary Kay Evanko, June Paull, Patricia Rine, Peggy Holly, and Phyllis Ripley; nephews, Paul Thomas Schubert, and John Schubert. Also surviving are many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. She was a member of St. Michael Church, Carol Ladies, Sisters of St. Joseph Auxiliary, Wheeling Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer at Wheeling Hospital. She was past president of the Pilot Club of Wheeling, Past District Treasurer of the Pilot Club International, and Past President of the Oglebay Women’s Golf Club. Friends will be received from 6-8 pm Thursday at the Kepner Funeral Home, National Road at Bethany Pike, Wheeling. (304-232-2732). Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 10:00 am at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Jeremiah F. McSweeney as celebrant. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling. Christian Wake Service will be held Thursday, 7:30 pm Memorial contributions can be made to the Oglebay Foundation, Oglebay Zoo, or to Stetson University, c/o Office of Development, Deland, FL. 32724.
