 Steele, Byron Oliver, 93, of Clara Welty Retirement Apartments, Wheeling died on Friday, June 29, 2012 in the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.

He was born November 12, 1918 in Warwood, WV the son of the late Oliver T. Steele and Flora Wallace Steele and was a member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church, Wheeling.

Byron was a retired supervising engineer for Columbia Gas Company in Majorsville, WV and a US Army-Air Force Veteran of WWII. He was a member of the American Legion Post #18 Cameron and the Elm Grove VFW Post #4442; a member of the Cameron Lodge #17 AF&AM; a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason; a member of the Osiris Temple of the Shrine and a member of the Legion of Honor of the Shrine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary June "Peggy" Clelland Steele and a sister, Kathryn Bishop.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Louise Gruse Steele; a son, Robert Steele of Logan, OH; a brother, Richard Steele of Wheeling; a sister, Betty Knight of Wheeling; three grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Mary Brandal and her husband, Bob of Grafton, OH and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Sunday, July 1, 2012 from 6-8 p m and on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p m at the Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Rd, Wheeling (304 232 2732) where services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:30 a m with the Reverend Joseph Samaroo officiating.. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery where the Moundsville Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Bob, Gary and I send our condolences for you and your family in the passing of your father. I wanted to let you know we (Class of 62 Reunion committee) tried in vain to get your address for our 50th reunion held Memorial Day weekend. So sorry to hear about Byron. We are in Fort Meade, Md and will not be able to attend his funeral but wanted you to know we are thinking of you, I remember all the fun we use to have as a kids out in Majorsville. God Bless and take care.

Bob, So sorry about your father's death. I live in Florida and went
online to see if the storm had done any damage in or around Wheeling
since my sister-in-law still lives there and decided to go look at
the obits. I don't know if you remember me. Elmer and Eva Richmond
were my parents. My dad worked as a watchman at the facility where
your Dad was manager. I haven't been back to Majorsville for many years but my brother, Jim, used to go down there once in a while and
he told me about how much bigger the place is. Hard to believe.
Jim died a year ago of lung cancer. Just wanted to send my condolences and touch base with you.
